The Basics

If you want to join in the fun, here’s a list of the tools that we have on hand to make all these crafty projects.  Some we find necessary, and some we just like to have.  There’s always an alternative to anything, but having the right tool for the job is just, well, better.

The Musts:

  • Tacker (staple) Gun — A necessity for all types of upholstery projects.
  • Saw — A regular saw is good, but a power saw is better!
  • Drill — It will make projects go a lot faster, trust us. If you can get a cordless one, it’s worth it. Make sure you also get one that has the screwdriver bits.
  • Scissors — Make sure you have a good pair of tailor-grade 12″ scissors.
  • Pliers — If you’re prone to making mistakes (like us!), pliers will save you a lot of headaches when pulling out staples!
  • Sewing Machine — They are not expensive and the cheaper ones are virtually foolproof (if Alberto, can use one…). Make sure you don’t overspend on one…all we do is very basic sewing.
  • Glue Gun — You’d be amazed what you can do with a little glue.
  • Safety equipment such as goggles and a face masks for dust and fumes.
  • Upholstery pins and a measuring tool (i.e. measuring tape, ruler, yard stick, etc.)

Also Nice to Have:

If you want to take it up to the next level, all these electric tools will make every project go faster, look more professional and save you a lot of time. There are tons of brands out there, we usually choose DeWalt if we can.

We’re not doing heavy duty work here, so the most important thing to keep in mind when buying these tools is not necessarily the durability, but rather how comfortable you feel when using them. Try to find a set that is not too heavy and also fits well in your hands.

  • Miter Saw
  • Router
  • Paint sprayer
  • Electric sander
  • Nail Gun
  • Table saw
  • Shop vac (wet/dry)

Always have fun and be careful!!
